Stories With Happy Endings Are The Best...
Thank You To All Our Pet-A-Palooza Adopters!

On August 19th and 20th Little Shelter held it's 20th Annual Pet-A-Palooza. From 9am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday the shelter grounds were bustling with families eager to adopt a new best friend. The event attracted adopters mostly from Long Island, however families came all over the tri-state area to partake in the festivities and meet our adoptable animals.

By the end of this phenomenal event, over 60 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens were off to furever homes. All weekend long you could see families interacting with dogs which ran the gambit in breed, age and size. With so many dogs available, there was somebody for every family. We are so happy for all of the dogs and cats who found their new best friend and would like to thank everyone who came to participate in this exciting event.

If you didn't make it down to Pet-A-Palooza this year, make sure you mark next year's Pet-A-Palooza in your calendar! Our 21st Annual Pet-A-Palooza will be on August 18th & 19th 2018.
What's Happening At Little Shelter...

Lang Has A New Leash On Life!

When Lang first arrived to Little Shelter, he was very ill. (Though you would never know it by the way he acted.) From the moment he stepped foot into Little Shelter he was bursting with excitement - running around, giving kisses, jumping and just being all too adorable.

Lang had a liver shunt, a condition he was most likely born with but was getting progressively worse. As blood continued to bypass his liver, toxins were building up in his bloodstream to dangerous levels. Without intervention, the outlook on Lang's life was pretty grim. Little Shelter saw that he got the best medical care and was soon cleared for surgery.
This story has a very happy ending for Lang, not only was the surgery successful but he is doing better than we had expected in recovery. Even better, Lang donation campaign was seen by one of Little Shelter's adopters and they immediately came to meet him. It was love at first sight and Lang will spend the rest of his recovery and the rest of his life in a loving home with his new family and furry siblings. Fall Festivals Are Here!
While summer is our busiest time for events at Little Shelter, the change of seasons does not mean that things slow down. Little Shelter is part of many town festivals on Long Island. This is one of the ways we like to stay connected with our local communities and reach out to new adopters. Keep an eye on the event calendar and come visit us, we always have adoptable dogs at our booths.

Be sure to support your community by going to local festivals and come see us at:
Ronkonkoma Street Fair, Harborfest (Sag Harbor), and the Long Island Fall Festival (Huntington).

Little Shelter Welcomes New Veterinarian

Little Shelter is excited to welcome veterinarian Dr. Christine Handlin DVM to our team!

This is a great addition to our expanding facilities and programs. We know with her that our dogs and cats will be in good hands. Having a veterinarian on premises will help streamline the process of having all our beloved residents be available sooner for adoption. This is the just part of the big plans Little Shelter has for 2018 and beyond.

 Welcome Dr. Christine Handlin DVM

  1. I fell for a sweet girl named Mew Mew. Oddly I didn't sketch her. My 10 year old grand daughter, Sarah, was with us for Spring Break. I think she captured Charlie 1 quite well. Thanks to Oak Harbor Cat Adoption staff for keeping these sweet kitties so clean, odor free, well fed and clearly well loved. learn more
