Stories With Happy Endings Are The Best...

Little Shelter's Adoption Of The Month: Carmella!

Carmella was first discovered wandering the streets looking for food. The little cat was old, had ratty fur, she was skin and bones, but very friendly. She wouldn't hesitate to go right up to people asking for affection. Concerned for this sweet senior, a Good Samaritan brought Carmella to Little Shelter where she could be properly cared for.

Carmella was 16 years old and Little Shelter understood that with a cat of that age the odds were against her for finding a furever home. With so many other friendly kittens and cats around her, it would be a challenge to make her stand out. We were determined that she would spend her golden years in a home and started sharing her story wherever we could.

Then one day a miracle happened! After reading Carmella's story in an email a family came to Little Shelter to meet her, and fell in love instantly when Carmella nestled herself in their arms and began to purr. They knew that she was meant for them and asked to adopt her, in that one moment Carmella's entire world changed. She's now settled in her new home, lounging on the bed and curling up to her new family for cuddles. We know that her life was truly saved when she was adopted and we are so happy to hear that she is thriving in her new home.

This Month At Little Shelter...

Little Shelter Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary!

Thank you to all our friends and family who came out to join us on April 2nd to celebrate Little Shelter's 90th anniversary of saving lives. It was a beautiful spring day and many volunteers, staff and friends of the shelter came out to share stories from over the years. At the dedication ceremony, proclamations were given to Little Shelter for our great service and Town Supervisor Frank Patrone addressed the crowd. Eugene Cook of Huntington Council and Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone also joined us for the celebration and to show their support for Little Shelters efforts over the past nine decades. During the event, recognition was given to some of the outstanding supporters who have been with us over the years, including Kathleen Eastwood who was awarded for her 25 years of volunteering with Little Shelter.
